Around the world, there are several countries that have a queen. That’s probably not news to you. But did you know that there is also a queen among fruits? You might expect this to be the largest species, but the opposite is true. The mangistan, also known as mangosteen, is the absolute queen. Why? Because of its intense flavour! The fruit has a hard purple skin and contains very tasty flesh. The mangosteen segments are a true delicacy, with a sweet, rich flavour.

The flesh of the mangosteen is exceptionally sweet and is often compared to the tropical fruits of pineapple and peach. Yet, beneath the sweetness, a subtle acidity adds complexity to its taste profile. Moreover, the interior is bursting with juiciness, making it a truly refreshing treat.
Cut the skin all around and remove the top part of the fruit. Remove the segments of flesh from the skin. Enjoy the mangosteen flesh by hand or add it to jam, ice cream or salads.
Preferably store mangosteens in the fridge for optimum flavour. If you wish to extend their shelf life, keeping them outside the fridge is a better option.
Serve mangosteen with dessert, for example with ice cream and whipped cream. Delicious!
Mangosteen is a powerhouse of health benefits, boasting a rich content of vitamins and minerals, including vitamins C, B1, B2, B6, iron, and calcium. It is even said that mangosteen is a superfood, although, in our opinion, all our fruits are superfoods!
