Our tour starts in the mountains of Tzaneen in Limpopo, where it all began. Zander exclaims with enthusiasm, “My father once started on this farm. Among our six farms, this one remains the biggest and also houses our headquarters.” At this location, the growing conditions for avocados are ideal. “This is due to a combination of factors - the mild temperate climate, the altitude of the Tzaneen mountains, and the fertile soil,” Zander explains.
Zander continues walking to where the avocados are growing and continues his story. “Our sole objective is to provide you with the ultimate avocado-eating experience! We achieve this through long-term partnerships and maintaining 100% control within the chain. In addition, our focus is on quality, food safety, sustainability, and consistency.”
Prioritising both people and the planet is a shared value, as Zander confirms! “We believe in the development of our employees. That is why we offer various courses and development plans. We have ourselves assessed by external auditing parties. As a result, we have obtained certificates from SIZA (Sustainability Initiative South Africa) and Rainforest Alliance - these are not mere words.”
As Zander continues walking among the avocados, he talks more about their vision. “We only have one planet, and we all need to keep it healthy. We're playing our part too. Our carefully designed farms allow us to work more efficiently and require fewer resources. This reduces soil erosion and energy and water consumption. To give you an idea, we have managed to reduce water use by 60% to 70% and we are super proud of that!”
