These terms often cause confusion. Do they mean the same thing or is there a difference? The latter is true, plant-based is not the same as veganism. In short, a vegan lifestyle is plant-based, but a plant-based lifestyle isn’t necessarily vegan. How so? In a plant-based lifestyle, meals consist mainly of (exotic) fruits and vegetables, legumes, tubers and grains. Consequently, animal products may still be used, although they are limited. This is different with veganism, where all animal products are excluded.
